Other hospital wards
Stabilizing vital signs is ICU' primary task. Once achieved this crucial landmark, patients are transferred to other hospital departments where clinicians start to work on discharging people at home with the best quality of life.
Being discharged from ICU is a sign of improvement not always perceived as such by patients, especially by those hospitalized for a long period: a sudden loss of a constantly present nurse and the absence of a 24 h monitorizing are among the reasons why a person feels abandoned.
The truth is that clinical conditions are constantly improving and being transfered to another department is the next step towards a return to normality.
